The story of Christie Pearce Rampone is one that has many incredible twists and turns. Christie exemplifies how humility, perseverance and hard work can be the perfect formula for success.
Unknown to most, Christie attended Monmouth University on a basketball scholarship. When not on the court, she excelled on the soccer field as a forward and registered an astounding 79 goals for the Hawks. Then one day during her senior year, the main office at Monmouth University received a fax message (yes, a fax message) that Christie had been invited into U.S. Women’s National Team camp.
The high-scoring striker and basketball standout was then asked to do something she had never done before when the U.S. WNT staff wanted to look at her as a defender. Needless to say, Christie found great success as a defender and quickly became a mainstay with the national team, earning her way onto the legendary 1999 roster that sold out the Rose Bowl when it won the 1999 FIFA World Cup.
Known for her lead by example approach to the game, Christie eventually saw Pia Sundhage put the captain’s band on her in 2008. Now affectionately referred to as Captain America, she eventually captained the U.S. WNT on a record 113 occasions.
Over the course of her professional career, Christie played in five FIFA World Cups and four different Olympic Games. The two-time FIFA World Cup champion and three-time Olympic Gold Medalist recorded 311 caps for the U.S. WNT, which is the second most of any single player in international soccer history (men or women).
For good measure, the now mother of two daughters (Rylie, Reece) also served as the head coach of Sky Blue FC in 2009 (while still playing as the captain), leading the team to three playoff road wins over the course of eight days and an improbable Women’s Professional Soccer championship. Oh yeah, and she did it all while she was pregnant with her second daughter, Reece.
Now available for speaking opportunities and promotional appearances, Christie Pearce Rampone provides an incredible perspective on sports and life that are best told in her own words.
